Champagne and Canapés

Champagne Joseph Perrier Cuvée Brut, France

Christmas is probably the only day of the year were it’s acceptable to pop open a bottle of Champagne shortly after sunrise. This bottle is rich and luxurious, perfect for Christmas morning. Hosting hints of toasty hazelnuts and brioche making it ideal for indulging! Marco recommends drinking this drop alongside your Christmas Day breakfast, with it making the perfect pairing for smoked salmon blinis. Now, that’s what I call Christmas.

Bubbles of Bolney Blanc

Bolney Blanc de Blanc 2016, West Sussex, England

So, you’ve opened your stockings, sipped some champagne and scoffed some salmon. What’s next? More wine sounds good to us. next bottle comes from the Bolney Wine Estate in Sussex. Marco tells us that this wine works as an excellent aperitif, so we recommend pouring yourself a glass before your Christmas dinner. This sparkling wine hosts some delightful floral and brioche notes combined with zesty citrus fruit, honeysuckle and elderflower. It is a delicate and well-balanced English sparkling wine, which finishes with a soft, fresh hint of sweetness. Your palate can expect to be met by fresh, fruity flavours, including picked garden apples, herbaceous, star fruit and mint.

Sensational for Seafood Starters

Chablis 2018, Domaine Mothe, Burgundy, France

Another wine that’s cracking for Christmas is a bottle of 2018 Chablis. This is an extremely quaffable wine, providing soft tropical notes that cut through great acidity and plenty of mineral character. Along with some slightly creamy notes and a drop of honey. Marco Describes this bottle as an “all round player”. The wine will pair perfectly with your Christmas Dinner starters, such as a seafood platter or a more traditional prawn cocktail. One reason Chablis compliments seafood so well is due to the high levels of acidity, acting almost as a squirt of lemon juice to brighten the flavours of your seafood starter.

One in Émilion!

Saint Émilion Gran Cru 2013, Jean de Trimoulet, Bordeaux, France

This bottle really is one in Émilion! The third and final french wine in this selection is a powerhouse of a red, absolutely perfect for a meaty main. Because of the tannins in this wine, it’ll dry the palette slightly, therefore crying out for some succulent meat to balance the tannic of the wine. Whether you choose turkey, beef or chicken this Christmas this red wine will pair perfectly with each of them. Not to mention trying this drop alongside your pigs in blankets. Simply sensational!

Another red worthy of a seat around your Christmas dinner table is Demuerte Classic. This drop is one of the most modern and original wines produced in the region of Yecla. The wine is creamy, smooth and rich with a delicious long-lasting aftertaste. Similarly to the Gran Cru, this red will work in perfect harmony alongside your main or even working as a sensational accompaniment to your Christmas Day cheese board.
